Young Bicyclist Runs Red Light And Hits Car While Not Wearing a Helmet

Elk Grove, CA (May 23, 2023) – A 12-year-old boy sustained severe injuries in a bicycle accident that occurred at the intersection of Laguna Boulevard and Bruceville Road last week on Tuesday.

The incident took place at approximately 1:35 p.m. on May 16. According to the Elk Grove Police Department, the young cyclist was traveling eastbound along the fifth lane shoulder area on Laguna Boulevard, without wearing a helmet, when he proceeded through the intersection against a red light.

Driver Remained At The Scene To Help

Simultaneously, a car traveling northbound on Bruceville Road entered the intersection with a green light. Tragically, the bicycle collided with the driver’s side of the vehicle.

As a result of the collision, the 12-year-old suffered serious injuries and was promptly rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

Fortunately, the driver involved in the incident remained at the scene and cooperated fully with the police investigation.

Authorities have determined that neither alcohol nor drugs played a role in the crash. However, a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident is still ongoing.
