Matt Lewis, Off-duty Riverside Police Officer, Killed in Nuevo Motorcycle Crash

NUEVO, CA (August 3, 2022) – Early in the evening on Monday in Nuevo, a crash involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck killed off-duty officer Matt Lewis.
The August 1 crash occurred close to where Santa Rosa Road and Pico Avenue intersect.
The time was roughly 7:15 p.m., the California Highway Patrol said.
Reports say Lewis–who was a motorcycle officer with Riverside Police–had been off-duty and riding his own motorcycle when the crash happened.
The motorcycle, and a vehicle–described as a pickup truck that was towing a trailer–collided.
No details have been reported on how the crash happened.
Responders pronounced the motorcyclist deceased at the crash site.
He was later identified as Lewis, a sergeant who was a 25-year veteran with Riverside Police.
Reports do not say if the person who was driving the pickup truck was injured in the crash. The identity of the person, including name, age, gender, and city of residence, has not been reported.
Investigators are continuing their work on the crash.
