The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a fatal collision that left a motorcyclist and a motorist dead in the South Valley Tuesday evening, Sept. 26th. The incident occurred shortly after 8:20 p.m. when LVMPD officers were summoned to the intersection of Warm Springs Road and Paradise Bay Drive, near Eastern Avenue following a collision between a vehicle and a motorcycle that had caught fire with heavy flames visible at the scene, police said. Evidence at the scene and witness testimonies indicated the motorcycle was traveling west on Warm Springs at a high rate of speed. A Honda Civic was exiting a residential area on South Paradise Bay Drive, turning left onto Warm Springs from a stop sign when the Honda drove in front of motorcycle. The motorcycle and Honda collided, and both the motorcyclist and driver of the Honda were pronounced dead by first responders.
The magnitude of the collision, which caused the motorcycle to catch fire, validated the statements by witnesses that the motorcyclist was speeding. The Clark County Coroner’s Bureau identified the motorcyclist killed as 21-year old Bruce Munger of Henderson. They also identified the driver killed as 43-year old Paul Neal of Las Vegas. “There was no early indication that impairment contributed to the crash”, said Sgt. Robert Stauffer. Stauffer continued, “With temperatures dropping, this is the season when more pedestrians and cyclists are on valley roads and motorists should be aware, Stauffer said, adding that no time of year is appropriate for reckless driving”. This crash marks the 97th and 98th traffic-related fatalities in Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction since the beginning of 2017.
