Motorcyclist Killed, Passenger Injured in Rural San Diego Area Crash Involving SUV

CASA DE ORO-MOUNT HELIX, CA  (May 11, 2025) — A 22-year-old motorcyclist from El Cajon was killed and his passenger seriously injured Sunday night in a two-vehicle collision in East County, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

The fatal crash occurred around 8 p.m. at the intersection of Avocado Boulevard and Explorer Road. This is in the Casa de Oro-Mount Helix area. Authorities said the young man was riding a Ducati motorcycle northbound on Avocado Boulevard when a southbound Ford Explorer made a left turn onto Explorer Road, resulting in a head-on collision.

The Motorcycle Rider Was Pronounced Dead At The Scene

The force of the impact ejected both the rider and his 20-year-old female passenger from the motorcycle. The rider was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger survived but sustained major injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The driver of the SUV, a 40-year-old man from La Mesa, suffered minor injuries and was also hospitalized.

CHP investigators are working to determine the circumstances leading up to the crash, including whether drugs or alcohol played a role. The investigation remains ongoing.
