Camp Pendleton Motorcycle Crash involving Horse Trailer Kills Rider

CAMP PENDLETON, CA (August 18, 2022) – Early in the morning on Wednesday near Camp Pendleton, a crash involving a motorcycle and a horse trailer killed the rider. The August 17 crash occurred on I-5 near Las Pulgas Road.

The time was roughly 12:30 a.m., the California Highway Patrol said.

According to Hunter Gerber, who is a spokesperson with the California Highway Patrol, the motorcyclist was traveling on I-5 and heading south. The motorcycle struck the back end of a horse trailer that was being towed by a pickup truck.

No details are yet known regarding the circumstances of the crash, or what led to it.

Responders pronounced the motorcyclist deceased at the crash site.

He was identified only as 20 years old. His name and city of residence have not been reported.

The person who was driving the pickup truck has also not been identified in reports. The horse trailer was described as empty when the crash occurred.

Investigators are continuing their efforts to collect information to understand how and why the crash occurred.
