August 3rd ─ A 21-year old man, identified by friends as former U.S Marine from Oak Hills, was killed when his motorcycle crashed into a vehicle in Hesperia early Monday morning. The incident occurred shortly after 9:00 a.m. when Hesperia Police Department received a call about a collision between a motorcycle and a vehicle at the intersection of Eucalyptus Street and Locust Avenue in Hesperia. Hesperia Police officers and San Bernardino Sheriff’s deputies arrived on scene and found the motorcyclist lying in the road next to his mangled motorcycle and a severely damaged Kia Forte on the corner of the intersection with the driver still trapped inside his vehicle. San Bernardino Fire and Rescue was able to successfully extricate the driver of the Kia Forte.

The motorcyclist was identified by San Bernardino County Coroners Bureau as Brian Delreal, 21- year old of Oak Hills. The driver of the Kia Forte was identified as 87-year old Paul Mendoza of Victorville. Despite life-saving efforts, Delreal was transported by ambulance to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead by medical staff. Mendoza was transported by ambulance to a local hospital as well and is listed in stable condition.

According to investigators, the evidence collected at the scene showed Delreal was traveling north on Locust Avenue approaching a four-way stop when he failed to yield and collided into the Kia Forte traveling west on Eucalyptus Street. It is unknown whether excessive speed, drugs, or alcohol played a factor in this tragic collision. This is an ongoing investigation by the Hesperia Sheriff’s Station Major Accident Investigation Team, (M.A.I.T).
