Motorcyclist Fleeing Police Pursuit Crashes and Dies in West Hills; Two Injured

WEST HILLS, CA (January 21, 2022) – Early in the afternoon on Thursday in West Hills, a rider on a suspected stolen motorcycle crashed and died during police pursuit; two people were injured.

The January 20 crash occurred where Fallbrook Avenue and Roscoe Boulevard intersect.

The time was roughly 1:00 p.m., Lizeth Lomeli said. Lomeli is an officer with Los Angeles Police.

Authorities said the motorcycle was traveling at fast speeds and was being surveilled from the air by personnel in a Los Angeles Police Department helicopter. Officers did not pursue on the ground, authorities said, because of the speed of the motorcyclist.

Not long into the pursuit, the motorcyclist collided with a vehicle at the Roscoe Boulevard intersection. The force of the crash threw the motorcyclist to the ground.

The rider died at the crash site. The identity of the person, including name, age, gender, and city of residence, has not been reported.

Responders transported two patients from the badly damaged car. The types of injuries the patients suffered, and their current condition, are not known.

The identities of the people have not been reported.

According to authorities, the motorcycle the suspect was riding was reported stolen from the San Fernando Valley.

Investigators are working to collect information and details regarding the incident.
