Driver Suspected of DUI Hits CHP Motorcycle Officer in Riverside

RIVERSIDE, CA (May 12, 2022) – Early in the morning on Monday in Riverside, a driver suspected of DUI struck and injured a California Highway Patrol motorcycle officer. The May 9 crash occurred where Adams Street and Indiana Avenue intersect.
The time was roughly 4:45 a.m., the California Highway Patrol said.
No details have been reported on how the crash happened.
A vehicle–described as a Hyundai Elantra–struck the motorcycle officer, and the force of the collision threw the officer to the ground.
Responders transported the motorcycle officer to the hospital. The person suffered injuries that were described as moderate.
The officer’s identity has not been reported.
Reports say the suspect driver left the crash site, but a person who witnessed the crash followed the suspect driver. The witness reported the location of the suspect’s car to authorities.
Authorities located the suspect driver, and arrested her on suspicion of hit-and-run causing injuries, and driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury.
The suspect driver was identified as Heather Fernandez, a resident of Riverside, 26 years old.
Investigators are continuing their work on the crash.
