Motorcyclist Killed on McDowell Road in Phoenix

PHOENIX, AZ — Phoenix Police Department has identified a motorcyclist who was killed early Sunday morning January 26th. The motorcyclist, 26-year old Spenser McBurney of Phoenix, died after having collided with a vehicle at the intersection of West McDowell Road and 17 Freeway. According to Phoenix Police Department, McBurney was traveling north of 23rd Avenue and collided with a vehicle. Officers say that the motorcycle failed to yield to a red traffic signal on McDowell Road. McBurney’s motorcycle collided with the passenger’s side of the vehicle ejecting McBurney. The motorcycle erupted into flames resulting in a vehicle fire.

First responders arrived to find McBurney dead at the scene. Both passengers and the driver were safely extricated from the vehicle. Detectives determined that alcohol or impairment were not a factor in the collision. The investigation is still ongoing.
