Whittier Multi-vehicle Fiery Crash on 605 Freeway Injures Motorcyclist, Possibly Others

WHITTIER, CA (December 20, 2021) – Early in the morning on Monday in Whittier, multiple vehicles crashed on the 605 Freeway. The December 20 crash, which occurred first on the southbound side of the freeway, erupted in flames.

The time was roughly 5:20 a.m., the California Highway Patrol said.

A vehicle–which has not been described–had been going south on the southbound side of the freeway. In an area close to Washington Boulevard, the vehicle crashed into divider in the center of the freeway.

The vehicle came to a stop on the opposite side of the freeway, in the lanes that head north.

Three other vehicles and a motorcycle were involved in a crash after the initial crash, but the sequence has not been described. All of the vehicles involved have also not been described. A fire erupted at the crash site.

Reports say the motorcyclist was hurt in the crash. The identity of the person has not been reported.

The types of injuries the rider suffered, and current condition, are not known.

It is not yet known if anyone else was hurt in the crash. No one involved in the collision has been identified, and the exact number of people is not yet known.

Investigators are continuing their work on the crash.
