Fallbrook Motorcycle Crash on South Mission Rd. Kills Rider; Hit-and-run Driver Sought

FALLBROOK, CA (November 14, 2022) – Late in the afternoon on Saturday in Fallbrook, a hit-and-run driver struck and killed a motorcyclist. The November 12 crash occurred on South Mission Road in the 4500 block, near La Canada Road and to the south of it.

The time was roughly 5:45 p.m., the California Highway Patrol said.

The motorcycle was traveling on South Mission Road and heading north, reports say.

A vehicle–described as a Toyota T-100 pickup truck–was traveling on La Canada Road and going west.

Authorities allege the pickup truck collided with the motorcycle.

The impact sent the motorcycle into the South Mission Road southbound lane, and the motorcycle collided with a vehicle–described as a Tesla.

The pickup truck’s driver fled the crash site.

Responders pronounced the rider deceased in the crash.

The rider was identified only as a resident of Fallbrook, 32 years old. The person’s name has not been reported.

Reports do not say if anyone in the Tesla was injured in the crash. The driver of the Tesla has not been identified in reports.

Authorities arrested the suspect hit-and-run driver at his residence.

He was identified as Francisco Esteban Rodas, a resident of Fallbrook, 33 years old.

Reports say Rodas faces charges that include felony hit and run, and felony DUI.

Investigators are continuing their work on the crash. If anyone has information about the incident, the person can call the California Highway Patrol.
