Motorcyclist Seriously Injured in Tustin Crash on SR-55 to I-5 Connector Ramp
TUSTIN, CA (May 7, 2025) — A motorcyclist suffered serious injuries Wednesday morning in a crash that prompted a temporary closure of the northbound SR-55 connector to northbound I-5, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The collision occurred around 8:40 a.m. on May 7, when a gray Toyota 4Runner and a motorcycle collided in the HOV transition lane. CHP officials report that the motorcyclist hit the SUV from behind and then ejected from the bike. This may have caused his falling from the elevated overpass to the streets below the I-5 Freeway.
CHP Reports That The Rider Flew Over The Transition Lane Onto City Streets
“The rider flew over the transition lane and down onto city streets under the 5 Freeway,” CHP reported.
Within minutes, emergency crews arrive, and the motorcyclist is taken to a nearby hospital. But unfortunately, the extent of the rider’s injuries is not being disclosed.
The crash prompted a full closure of the HOV transition ramp as emergency personnel secured the area and removed the wreckage. A SigAlert was issued, with traffic backing up for several miles during the morning commute.
The transition ramp reopened at 9:55 a.m., CHP officials report.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Authorities have not yet determined whether speed or other factors played a role.
