San Diego Bicyclist Struck and Injured on Camino Del Sur at SR 56

SAN DIEGO, CA (May 19, 2022) – Late in the afternoon on Wednesday in San Diego, a bicyclist was struck and she suffered serious injuries. The May 18 crash occurred in the neighborhood of Torrey Highlands, at Camino del Sur and State Route 56.

The time was roughly 5:25 p.m., according to John Buttle. Buttle is an officer with San Diego Police.

Reports say the bicyclist was going across Camino Del Sur in the 13000 block within the crosswalk, heading east.

A vehicle–described as a Volvo XC90 SUV–exited State Route 56, and made a turn to the right to Camino Del Sur; the vehicle hit the bicyclist.

Responders arrived and transported the patient to the hospital. She suffered injuries that were described as serious, including a broken back and pelvis.

The patient was identified only as 57 years old. Her name and city of residence have not been reported.

The driver was identified only as 80 years old. His name and city of residence have also not been reported.

Investigators are continuing their work on the crash details.
