August 3rd ─ A 21-year old man, identified by friends as former U.S Marine from Oak Hills, was killed when his motorcycle crashed into a vehicle in Hesperia early Monday morning. The incident occurred shortly after 9:00 a.m. when Hesperia Police Department received a call about a collision between a motorcycle and a vehicle at the intersection of Eucalyptus Street and Locust Avenue in Hesperia. Hesperia Police officers and San Bernardino Sheriff’s deputies arrived on scene and found the motorcyclist lying in the road next to his mangled motorcycle and a severely damaged Kia Forte on the corner of the intersection with the driver still trapped inside his vehicle. San Bernardino Fire and Rescue was able to successfully extricate the driver of the Kia Forte.

August 2nd ─ Police are asking the public for help in identifying the driver who caused a multi-vehicle hit-and-run crash leaving a motorcyclist to die in Winnetka area of Los Angeles early Tuesday evening. The incident occurred shortly after 8:30 p.m. when Los Angeles Police Department received reports of a multiple vehicle collision between a motorcycle and other vehicles at the intersection of Sherman Way and Oakdale Avenue. Police arrived to find 2 cars partially mangled and a motorcycle completely destroyed. According to authorities, a black sedan, possibly a BMW with tinted windows and dark rims, was traveling west on Sherman Way when it turned left in front of the motorcycle that was traveling east. The crash caused to motorcyclist to crash into a van parked on Sherman Way just east of Oakdale Avenue. “The motorcyclist actually went inside the van due to the speed and forces involved,” Los Angeles Police Department Detective Bill Bustos said.

July 19th ─ 1 man is dead after a motorcycle stunt goes wrong on California’s I-15 freeway Sunday morning. The man was identified as Leslie Elliott, 28-years old of Garden Grove, according to the Riverside County Coroner’s Bureau. Elliott was driving with around 20 to 30 motorcycle enthusiasts that form a group called Ruthless Ryderz who were performing stunts. The group was riding north on the I-15 Freeway near Weirick Road just before 10 a.m. The group slowed down and began blocking traffic on the I-15 Freeway so that riders could perform illegal stunts. Elliott attempted to stand on his motorcycle but fell to the ground when the bike became unstable and he lost his balance. Elliott was wearing a helmet when he fell from his motorcycle but the impact of the fall caused him to suffer major head trauma. After the accident, the other motorcyclists began blocking lanes on the I-15freeway. A SigAlert was issued and traffic was backed up for about 4 miles on the southbound side of the I-15 Freeway and about 3 miles on the northbound side. California Highway Patrol was able to clear the roadway by about 10:40 a.m. According to CHP, members of the club at the crash scene were not cooperative, and had removed Elliott’s motorcycle from the freeway and hid it at a nearby Arco gas station. Elliott was transported to Corona Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead by medical staff. Elliott leaves behind a 5-year old son.

July 18th ─ a bicyclist from Costa Mesa was struck and killed by a suspected DUI driver early Saturday morning in Newport Beach. According to authorities, Newport Beach Police officers responded to a report around 1:19 a.m. of a collision involving an SUV and two bicyclists on Newport Boulevard and Industrial Way. Eyewitnesses told police that a 2015 Kia Sorento SUV was heading north on Newport Boulevard when it struck two bicyclists. The driver fled the scene failing to stop and render aid to the injured victims. One of the bicyclists, Jose Vasquez-Perez, 41-years old of Costa Mesa, was pronounced dead on arrival by first responders. The condition of the other bicyclist was not made public.

July 11th ─ a motorcyclist is dead after trying to evade police early Tuesday morning. According to authorities the incident began when a San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to initiate a stop with a GSXR1000 motorcycle around 12:45 a.m. near Milliken Avenue and 7th Street in Rancho Cucamonga, after noticing the bike did not have a license plate. The motorcyclist then fled the area reaching speed of up to 100 mph according to deputies. Deputies chased it for about a mile and a half, until it reached 4th Street in Ontario when the chase was called off by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department due to excessive and unsafe speeds. The motorcycle continued another half-mile south until it broadsided a 1991 Toyota Corolla that was turning to enter the 10 freeway, according to Ontario Police. The driver of the Corolla was not injured but the motorcyclist was ejected from the bike and pronounced dead at the scene by responding Ontario Police officers. Excessive speed and alcohol have not been ruled out as factors in the crash and the identity of the motorcyclist has not been released until his family is notified.
