Motorcyclist Seriously Injured in Crash on I-880 in San Leandro

SAN LEANDRO, CA (April 28, 2025) — A motorcyclist sustained major injuries Monday morning in a collision involving a white van on southbound Interstate 880, just north of the I-238 interchange, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

The crash was reported at approximately 8:22 a.m., prompting a swift response from local fire crews and emergency medical personnel. CHP officials said the motorcyclist was found lying in lane one of the freeway, while the motorcycle had come to rest in a separate lane. A passing motorist stopped to provide aid before first responders arrived.

Male Motorcycle Rider Was Transported To A nearby Hospital

The male rider was conscious but suffered significant injuries. He was transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment, authorities said.

The collision initially blocked the first and second lanes of the freeway, leading to heavy delays during the morning rush hour. A blue BMW driver also stopped at the scene and helped direct traffic until officials arrived and secured the area.

CHP Officials Closed Several Lanes Until They Could Remove All Vehicles Involved

CHP officers and fire crews later moved the involved vehicles to the roadside to restore the flow of traffic. Drivers were advised to remain cautious and expect lingering delays.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Officials have not yet determined whether speed, distraction, or other factors played a role in the incident.
